The Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) is a centre of excellence situated in Dhaka,
the Capital City of Bangladesh which is located in South Asia. The working domain of CEGIS span over Resource
Management Planning (Natural and Intellectual), System Development, Capacity Building and Research activities.

CEGIS, a scientifically independent center of excellence and technically sound entity, is a
Public Trust and not-for-profit organisation functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Water Resources,
Bangladesh. It started with intellectual services for natural resources and disaster management planning
using GIS, Remote Sensing and database technology for integrated environmental and social analysis. Over the years,
it has expanded the service areas to other development spheres. It provides solution to the issues and problems of water
and land resources, agriculture, fisheries, power and energy, river morphology, climate change etc. and recommends
technical options based on local realities that are feasible and sustainable from the socio-economic and institutional points of view.
CEGIS is a pioneer in Bangladesh in integrated environmental and social analysis and monitoring studies using the latest
concepts and GIS and space technologies. Its services and projects include IEE, EIA, SIA,
Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), analytical framework for integrated water resources management (IWRM), spatial analysis using
GIS and Remote Sensing for flood monitoring, drought assessment and monitoring, monitoring of river planform changes,
river erosion and accretion prediction, flood damage assessment, land use planning and zoning, urban planning,
database and IT services such as the NWRD, development of metadatabase and web-based spatial database, MIS and
Decision Support Systems for planning, designing, implementation and monitoring of projects, etc.
Support from the Government of Bangladesh through the BoT and strong cooperation from governmental
organisations and international agencies are continuously paving the way for a better future for CEGIS.
I, as the Executive Director of this forward-looking scientific organisation, would like to invite you

Dr. Zafar Ahmed Khan has taken charge as Secretary of the Ministry of
Water Resources and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of CEGIS since 10 February 2014.
CEGIS has celebrated its Annual Picnic 2016 on 8 January 2016 at Seagull Resort, Mawna, Gazipur.
