On 3rd August 2007,
the RADARSAT Satellite was programmed on request of CEGIS to acquire
an image to map flood extent. The image was processed in Near-Real Time
mode. It was placed in the ftp site just after acquisition and CEGIS
downloaded the image immediately and classified it into two categories:
“open water flood extent” and “others”. The
flood map was produced within 48 hours of image acquisition.
Figure below shows
the open water flood extent of 3rd August 2007. The area of open water
flood extent that was derived from the satellite image is about 44,000
sq.km. Districtwise open water flood extent map is available on request.
