Career Summary

Mr. Hossain has strong working experience in Climate Change Impact Analysis, vulnerability assessment and Adaptation, Climate Modelling, water resources, hydrology, hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, flood early warning and disaster risk reduction related activities. He has been working with CEGIS since 2007. He has worked extensively in different climate change and disaster management related projects funded by different national and international agencies and worked with renowned research groups. He has more than 15 years working experience in these fields. The major focus of his work is on the analysis of climatic parameters, their changes during various future time periods, the impacts of these on hydrology, agriculture, natural resources, health and disaster events (e.g., floods). He has also experiences in running regional climate models to generate detailed climate scenario for Bangladesh.

He has worked in research activities involving assessment of sea level rise in Bangladesh coast and the regional variation of it under climate change conditions. Recently he was involved in the National adaptation plan (NAP) formulation project and Updating the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) project for Bangladesh. He is also involved in Capacity building and training activities for NAP.

Mr. Hossain has recently worked in preparing the climate change scenarios for Bangladesh and Bhutan (Thimpu and Paro) based on latest available GCM/RCM data and conducted bias correction and prepared future scenario for climate change. He has a vast knowledge and expertise on climate models, downscaling, Representative Concentration Pathways and the Shared Socio-economic Pathways.

He is experienced computer user on MS word, MS excel, MS PowerPoint, MS access and other office packages. He has expertise in GIS software (ArcGIS), hydrologic modeling software (HEC-HMS, SWAT), hydrodynamic modeling software (SOBEK, MIKE11, MIKE SHE, HEC-RAS), Groundwater Modelling software (MODFLOW), regional climate model (PRECIS) etc. He is also experienced in programming languages python and R and use them frequently for climate change related analyses.
