Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL) is one of the Government owned Power Generation Company of Bangladesh. It was registered as a public ltd company from the register of joint stock companies and firms on 31st December 1994 to alleviate severe power crisis of the country.  The company is presently generating 287MW of electricity from its 3 (three) power stations. RPCL has over the years gained experience in project implementation and operation and maintenance of power plants. This has given the company an edge over others in becoming the leading Bangladeshi company with three operating plants of its own. Power Division has set a target for RPCL of 100 MW AC Solar power which will be implemented within 2030. RPCL decided to implement a 200 (100+100) MW AC solar PV Power Plant at Mollahat, Bagherhat in two phases (1st phase-100MW AC and 2nd Phase-100 MW AC). The land of this project is a fishery area. The plant will be established in the fisheries project. Activities Performed: Analysis of different alternatives for the power plant, preparation of project data sheet, layout Preparation, land use and land Cover mapping, climate meteorological data analysis, conducting field visit, IEE and EIA Study; and report writing and preparation. Coordinate the project as the Project Leader, took all the administrative works and made coordination with the Team Leader and the Team members.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Gazaria 350 (±10%) MW for Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant Project at Gazaria, Munshiganj

RPCL has signed a contract with the JV-OMS-CEGIS on 31^st January, 2016 for Consultancy Services for Detailed Feasibility Study, Initial Environmental Examination (IEE), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) & Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Study of Gazaria 350 (±10%) MW Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant at Gazaria, Munshiganj, Bangladesh.  The project shall be based on imported coal as primary fuel. Upon agreement CEGIS will conduct the IEE, EIA and SIA studies to identify potential environmental and Socio-economic impacts with the possible mitigation measures and a tentative Environmental Management Plan. CEGIS will carry out the IEE for Site Clearance Certificate, the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for environmental approval/ clearance certificate from the DoE, Bangladesh. The major tasks under this study will include, delineating baseline condition; assessing and evaluating specific impacts on the environmental and social components and devising corresponding environmental management plan (EMP) along with environmental monitoring plan. Overall tenure for the study is six months of which CEGIS will get five and half month for IEE and ESIA studies. The study area is located at Gazaria, Munshiganj, Bangladesh.
