Dr. Md Shibly Sadik is an Environmental and Disaster Risk Management specialist with a keen interest in strategic planning, policy and institutional analysis, and action research in the field of environmental and disaster risk reduction. He completed his Ph.D. (Engineering) from Kyoto University with a specific focus on environmental and disaster risk science. He also has post-doctoral research experience in collaboration with the Institute for Water Education (IHE) Delft (Netherlands) where he particularly focused on developing strategic planning tools to aid the Implementation of Participatory Water Management Reform under the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100. His research interest thus aligns to the inclusion of disaster risk reduction, environmental safeguard, and institutional strengthening in strategic planning, development, and implementation. He has been trained in the field of Post-disaster Recovery Planning, Disaster Risk Reduction, Assessment of Natural Hazard Triggering Technological Disaster (NATECH), Environmental Safeguard and Planning, Disaster Impact Assessment and Need Assessment.
In his advisory career, he was involved in the Preparation and Support of the Implementation of the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100, the Preparation of the National Adaptation Plan, with the responsibility of the inclusion of DRR and Institutional Assessment. He has provided environmental advisory services to Government Organizations e.g. BWDB, BPDB, BIWTA, Bangladesh Planning Commission, BEZA, LGED, NWPGCL; Private Organizations i.e. Energy pack, BIFPCL, CHEVRON; and Development Partners like World Bank, GIZ, UNDP. Such involvement included ESIA of different infrastructure development projects like water & disaster management infrastructures, mega thermal power plants, gas exploration, drilling, and other energy-based infrastructures. He was a part of several international collaborative research e.g. EU funded AFROMAISON, JST-JICA funded SATREP, NWO Funded UDW Project etc. He has about 12 years of experience. Belgium, Japan, Netherlands and Bangladesh are countries of his work experience. He is affiliated with several professional & academic societies including IUCN's Commission on Environmental, Economic, and Social Policy.
