EIA study of Ganges Barrage

2010 - 2011

Conducted environmental and social impact assessment of the Ganges Barrage project proposed at Pangsha. Delineated EIA study area which included the Ganges dependent area and the Sundarbans. Established the environmental and social baseline condition in the study area. Generated the future-with and future-without the Ganges Barrage scenario based on which impacts of the barrage on the environmental and social components were assessed. An environmental management plan was developed suggesting mitigation measures for taking care of the negative impacts, enhancement measures for the positive impacts, compensation measures for negative which could not be mitigated and an environmental and social monitoring plan.

EIA study of coal based thermal power plant at Rampal

2010 - 2011

Conducted Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) study of coal based thermal power plant, based on which the site proposed at Rampal in Bagerhat district was cleared by the Department of Environment (DOE). With site clearance from the DOE, conducted environmental and social impact assessment study of coal based thermal power plant at Rampal. Obtained technical data from the proponent and conducted the EIA study with special emphasis on the impacts of the project on the Sundarbans. An environmental and social management plan was developed. Conducted environmental and social monitoring at the pre-construction phase which is likely to be followed up by environmental and social monitoring at the construction and post-construction phases.

EIA study of Ashugonj-Bakhrabad-Chittagong gas transmission pipeline

2009 - 2010

Conducted environmental and social impact assessment study of the Ashugonj-Bakhrabad-Chittagong gas transmission pipeline with TOR from the Gas Transmission and Distribution Company (GTCL) with ADB financing. Alternate routes were analyzed by CEGIS, based on which EIA study for the selected route was carried out. Environmental and social baseline was established for the entire length of the transmission route. This was followed by assessing the impacts of the gas transmission pipeline on the environmental and social components during pre-construction, construction and post-construction phases. An environmental management plan was developed suggesting mitigation measures for the negative impacts, enhancement measures for the positive impacts, compensation for the negative impacts whci could not be mitigated, contingency plan for accidental events and an environmental monitoring plan.

EIA study of Gorai River Restoration Project (GRRP)

1999 - 2001

Conducted EIA study of GRRP as Team Leader. Engaged by BWDB and funded by the World Bank, assessed the possible impacts of the interventions proposed to divert Ganges water into the Gorai river on the environmental and social components. Developed environmental management plan (EMP) which included mitigation plan, enhancement plan, compensation plan, contingency plan and environmental monitoring plan.  Carried out environmental and social monitoring for 1999-2001 period and produced a monitoring report indicating changes taking place in respect of different indicators with particular reference to salinity reduction due to diversion of Ganges water into the Gorai river.

EIA study of Khulna-Jessore Drainage Rehabilitation Project (KJDRP)

1997 - 1998

Conducted EIA study of KJDRP as co-team leader with international Team Leader. Engaged by BWDB and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with TOR for assessment of environmental and social impact of a proposed regulator, either at Shibnagar or Modhukhali, for removing drainage congestion in Khulna and Jessore area, came up with the innovative concept of tidal river management (TRM) for sustainable improvement of drainage congestion. Application of the TRM concept proved to be effective and has become the popular demand of the local people.
